Residents will head to the ballot box in just over two months to elect the inaugural Hilltops Council, with General Manager Anthony McMahon reminding the community of key dates in the lead up to election day.

“The election for the new Hilltops Council will be conducted by the NSW Electoral Commission and will be held on Saturday the 9th of September.  There are 11 positions to be filled, with the successful candidates elected for three years,” Mr McMahon said.

“Voting is compulsory for all people enrolled in the Hilltops Council Local Government Area (LGA), and the Electoral Commission does apply fines for not voting.

“To check your enrolment details are up-to-date, or to register to vote, visit the NSW Electoral Commission website before the roll closes on July 31 to ensure you’re eligible to have your say about the area you live in,” he said.

Mr McMahon said for those seeking further information on polling places, the NSW Electoral Commission website will list details closer to election day.

“Information on where to vote throughout the Hilltops area will be made available on the NSW Electoral Commission website mid-August,” Mr McMahon said.

“For those wanting to vote early, pre-poll voting will open on Monday 28 August, while postal vote applications close on Monday 4 September,” he said.

Mr McMahon said for anyone thinking about nominating themselves for Hilltops Council, there are a number of resources available online.

“For those considering running for Hilltops Council, nominations open on Monday 31 July and close at noon on Wednesday 9 August.  Forms and candidate information kits are available at the NSW Electoral Commission website,” Mr McMahon said.
