Planning is well underway for the hugely popular Lambing Flat Chinese Festival in Young. This year’s event will be held on Saturday 24 March, with organisers excited about the festival’s new location.

“After feedback following last year’s festival, the main event this year will be staged in Boorowa Street (between Main and Clarke Streets),” Hilltops Council Tourism Manager David Newberry said.

“As always, there will be a range of activities on throughout the day, with the official opening at 4pm outside Town Hall.

“With less than six weeks to go until festival day rolls around, we’re asking local hospitality outlets, as well as local community organisations and clubs, to start thinking about and planning their participation in the hugely popular ‘Eat Street’ stall, to help ensure this year’s overall event is bigger and better than ever,” he said.

Mr Newberry said the festival – the first of a number of popular events on the Hilltops’ festival calendar – presents a great opportunity for businesses in Young and the entire surrounding district.

“The event is a chance for businesses to capitalise on the expected influx of visitors to the area by extending their opening hours to accommodate the increased shopping traffic,” Mr Newberry said.

“Businesses are also being encouraged to decorate their windows as part of the celebration to ensure the streets are alive with colour on the day,” he said.
