Hilltops Council aims to engage community with new social media initiative

24/09/2019
Hilltops Council is working to improve engagement within the community by using social media. In doing so, we plan on celebrating the diverse voices from around the region and bring people together.

With the Council amalgamation three years ago, this new initiative comes in response to the wishes of our community to be able to be more involved in concerns and hopes for the future of the region. Council wants to hear from residents in all corners of the new region in a campaign being launched today.

Hilltops Mayor, Brain Ingram said “Social media plays an integral role in how we communicate in a modern society and Council wants to be able to tap in to where our community is and ensure we are listening to concerns and that action is being taken to better the community.”

Council is encouraging local residents from the region to follow the Hilltops Instagram and Facebook sites as part of the initiative.

“We are kicking off activities to improve following on Council social media with a new campaign titled ‘Local of the Week’, where locals across the Hilltops region will be recognised and praised for their contribution to the community and the stories of these people who are really making a difference in our community but who otherwise might go unnoticed, will be shared and celebrated,” Mayor Ingram said.

Council are asking Hilltops locals to nominate community members who they think deserve recognition in the community. Submission of a recent photo, name and email of up to 200 words answering the following question: What does this person do to help make our community special?” should be sent to the Hilltops council Facebook page or email media@hilltops.nsw.gov.au. A reply email will be sent to the person making the nomination confirming the nominee has given permission for their image and story to be shared on social media.
“We have a lot to celebrate in the Hilltops Region and this initiative is in aid of one of Hilltops Council’s aims to increase social inclusion, engagement and proactiveness to ensure the whole community have a chance to be involved in shaping our future,” Mayor Brian Ingram said.
